Thirty-Thousand Years Is Real

Wrongful convictions can happen anywhere.

I’ve set my novels about systemic injustice leading to wrongful convictions in my hometown of Denver because I must not assume that what happens in other places is not also happening in my own backyard.

I want to invite you to discover what's happening in your own backyard.

According to the National Registry of Exonerations, we have passed a grim milestone in America—time lost to false convictions has now exceeded thirty thousand years. With over three thousand five hundred exonerees who served on average eight years and eleven months each, there is still work to be done. Black people served the overwhelming majority of these thirty thousand years. In 2023 alone, there were an average of 3 exonerations every week!

How many of these wrongful convictions happened in your state, city or town? Find out here.

There are over seventy innocence organizations who desperately need your support. If you'd like to help here's a link where you can discover your local organization.

There are more, and they are why I write!
